How to play Gin Rummy online
Gin Rummy is a two-player card game. Here you play against a computer bot. The goal is to match your cards into groups, so that very few cards are left over.
The groups (melds)
- A set is 3 or 4 cards with the same number, like three 7s.
- A run is 3 or more cards in a row in the same suit, like 4-5-6 of hearts. The ace is low (A-2-3). Q-K-A is not a run.
- Cards that are not in a group are deadwood. They count against you: ace is 1, 2 to 10 are their number, J, Q and K are 10.
Your turn
Each player gets 10 cards. On your turn, draw one card from the stock or take the top card of the discard pile. Then discard one card. You cannot throw back the card you just took from the pile. The game sorts your hand to keep your deadwood as low as possible.
Knocking and going gin
- Knock when your deadwood is 10 or less after your discard. The other player can add loose cards to your groups. The lower deadwood scores the difference.
- Gin means zero deadwood. You score the other player's deadwood plus 25, and they cannot add cards.
- Undercut: if the other player ties or beats you after you knock, they score the difference plus 25.
Winning
Play hand after hand. The first player to reach the target score (100 by default) wins. You can turn on bonuses in the options. Shortcut keys: S stock, D discard pile, P pass, K knock.
