Compare all five buildings on one lot. You see what each one would do to the buildings next to it. It is only a preview and costs no permit.

Preview only — permits unchanged. Use a plan, then build on the highlighted lot.

How to play City Blocks

You are building a tiny city on an 8 by 8 grid. Pick a building (or press 1 to 5), then tap an empty lot. Every building costs one permit. Each district starts with 16 permits, plus any you saved from the last one.

Your goal is to reach the population target before the permits run out. District 1 needs 50 people. Each new district needs 10 more, and has more rocks that you cannot build on.

Buildings only look at the four lots touching them. A house gives 3 people, plus 2 for each park next to it, plus 3 if a school is next to it, minus 3 for each factory next to it. A shop gives 2 for each house next to it. A park gives nothing itself, but every house next to it gets 2 more. A factory gives 2, plus 3 for each shop next to it. A school gives nothing itself, but every house next to it gets 3 more.

The numbers on empty lots show how many people the chosen building would add or lose. Green means the best spot right now. If three builds in a row each add 7 or more people, you earn one bonus permit. You get one undo per district (the Undo button or the U key). When you reach the goal, press Next district. Your best score and furthest district are saved on this device.
