How to play Balance Scale
A beam sits on a pivot. Blue weights already hang on the left side. Your job is to hang your red weights on the right side so the beam sits level.
- Every weight has a push. The push is its weight in kg times how far it hangs from the pivot. The numbers 1 to 4 under the beam show the distance.
- Add up the push on each side. The beam tips toward the bigger number. The two numbers at the top show Left and Right. The line between them tells you how much more you need, or how much is too much.
- Tap a red weight, then tap a spot on the right arm. Or drag the weight there. Tap a weight on the beam to take it back.
- When Left and Right match, the beam levels out and the level is done.
Stars, hints and levels
There are 12 levels. Every placing or taking back counts as one move. Finish within the par number of moves, with no hint, for 3 stars. Finish within 4 moves of par for 2 stars. Anything slower earns 1 star. The Hint button shows one good next move, but then you can earn at most 2 stars on that level.
From level 2 some levels give you extra weights you do not need. Pick the ones that fit. Your best stars for each level are saved in this browser. The Torque Lab under the game lets you try weights and distances freely. It does not use up moves or hints.
